Varaždin: A Perfect Combination For A Dental Travel

Croatia's Stari Grad Old Castle

Croatia: One of Europe's Best Kept Secrets for Cosmetic Dentistry

Known as Croatia’s ‘Little Vienna’, Varaždin is one of Central Europe’s oldest and most beautiful cities. Located north of Zagreb, Varaždin is a city whose rich history goes back to the 12th century, when the city housed the region’s wealthiest nobles, landowners, artisans and artists. Well known for its beautiful Baroque style buildings with their elegantly coloured facades and its fairy-tale castle, it’s almost impossible not to be charmed by this historic gem of a city. Varaždin is the perfect place if you are looking to combine culture and history with excellent, affordable dental care.

Reputation for Quality Dental Work

Varaždin is relatively new to the dental tourism market offering competitive prices, beautiful surroundings and friendly service. The dental services provided are of the highest quality as dentists must follow a tough and demanding qualification process while keeping up with the latest techniques and technologies.

Dental Procedures offered include:

  • Cosmetic dentistry
  • Dental Implants
  • Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Fillings

Getting There

As the administrative, political, economic and cultural centre of North Croatia, Varaždin is relatively easy to reach. There are frequent buses from Zagreb (Croatia’s capital) to Varaždin and the journey is about 90 minutes each way. There are also buses serving other major Croatian cities as well as a number of international destinations including, Hungary, Germany and Austria.

If you are looking to take in some of Croatia’s magnificent scenery during your stay, the train is the most scenic and cheapest way to get to Varaždin. However, be sure to allow plenty of time for the journey, because although the journey may be cheap and beautiful, it is also quite slow, taking around 2 hours 20 minutes from Zagreb. Although, recently a much faster (and more expensive) alternative train service has been added to the rail network.

Things to Do in Varaždin and Croatia

Despite being located only 80km from the Croatian capital, Varaždin is one of Croatia’s best kept secrets. Full of quaint little cafes, an impressive medieval fairytale-esque castle, a variety of unique museums and one of the best collections of intact Baroque buildings in Europe, Varaždin has managed to remain untouched by mass tourism, making it the ideal place to relax following (or preceding) your dental procedure.

One of the top attractions in Varaždin is the Stari Grad (Old City), this 14th century medieval fortress, unlike its dark and dreary medieval contemporaries, looks more like a castle out of a fairy-tale with its numerous rounded red-capped towers and whitewashed exterior. Stari Grad, currently houses a cultural collection of artifacts relating to Varaždin’s history dating from the middle-ages.

Varaždin is one of Croatia’s most walkable cities, making it easy to explore what this charming city has to offer, visitors to Varaždin can enjoy strolls along its many promenades and parks.

Varaždin hosts a collection of unique museums, one of the more intriguing ones being Varaždin’s Insect Museum (Gradski muzej Varaždin Entomološki odjel). Over 4,000 exhibits of the planet’s most fascinating insects are housed in a beautiful baroque building. The butterfly collection is particularly beautiful.

If you’re looking to enjoy some light entertainment and music, Varaždin has plenty to offer its visitors. The Music School, which fosters young classical talent, often holds classical music concerts and in late summer, there is the Spancirfest, a magnificent street festival that combines street theatre, exhibitions, traditional crafts, food and music.
