One of the top sites Romania has to offer its visitors is Transylvania – with its numerous castles (including Dracula’s), incredible scenery and charming country life.

While in Bucharest the Palace of Parliament is certainly worth a visit, this gargantuan building is the “masterpiece” of the country’s former Communist dictator. While much of the centre is lively and modern, you will find some splendid 17th and 18th century Orthodox churches tucked away in quiet corners and graceful art nouveau villas as well as some lovely museums and trendy cafes.

Transylvania gives visitors an insight to Romania's haunted past and is home to some of Europe’s best-preserved medieval towns, Brasov being the most well-known. Brasov is home to Bran Castle, home to the infamous Vlad Dracul. The castle itself was the chief inspiration for Bram Stoker's “Dracula” novel.

The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve has the third largest biodiversity in the world with over 5,500 flora and fauna species, it is exceeded only by the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Galapagos Archipelago in Ecuador. The Danube Delta is comprised of a complex network of waterways and lakes divided between the three main estuary channels of the Danube. The Delta can be explored as part of a Danube River Cruise, or on day trips and boat excursions from Tulcea, where the museum of the Danube Delta is located.

Romania’s magnificent landscapes, rich culture and history are not something to be missed. Try and find some time before or after your procedure to explore some of what Romania has to offer.
